On this last month, my friend and colleague and friend from Singapore, a fellow student of a prestigious international university, asked his fellow students and faculty members who they’d found the most unique person they’d ever encountered. They included some of the students I’d heard from. I was glad to have had the opportunity to meet people with this unusual personal interest, because I found a few of them fascinating. One was my late father, who was an alcoholic, one of whom had once described the most wonderful pleasures of my life as a giant (the name he gave to his beloved), and one of whom had once said, This place is great. It’s the best thing anybody’s ever done on a beach. It’s the best place we have. The other was a member of this very same university team who had studied the same subjects but had become depressed. One day he woke up in the middle of the night and realized that his heart was pounding too much for him and he really needed to change. After asking him all about this, the university asked him to sit through the lecture and he accepted without hesitation. It seemed he had the same feelings as all of these students. He even showed some photographs of himself as well as photos of a couple of other students in a room. In fact I was able to view and review them on my own. This kind of person is very unique.
What if you were asked not to take your mind away from your own personality Could that be your motivation for doing so
One day I began to think about what I wanted the most. Something I wanted everyone to do I wanted to be a great person. And the problem is not with my own self, but with society. We just have so much self-centeredness about us. And that’s probably why they have that habit of looking at things they don’t want to see or that they’re unsure or that they never know.
We feel like the most important thing is to make others happy. I would say the key to happiness in Singapore is getting love, because happiness is a very important ingredient, and that’s our biggest goal and it’s what makes life worth living in.
