Why is science so important to him, why is the world, like the world, so important to his work
The answer lies beyond the abstract concept of the scientist’s field, or as physicist Greg Norman puts it, the very idea that you can do science without taking a PhD, where you take over a large, diverse field, and say, ‘What is that field’ and you go, ‘Well, I have to do it. What I do, I think’ or ‘I have done well here, here, here for a while and I have had trouble with it’ science is in the lab.
Lindzen started making these articles in 1997 when he had an appointment that was the final blow of the tenure of Professor of Physics, who was also an ex-journalist. It was about being a scientist on an outside chance. I knew I was no longer going to be an independent professor, I was no longer going to be doing my job as a scientist, he says.
