A man shot and killed a woman on Chicago’s South Side Tuesday in a car crash, authorities said.
The shooting happened about 11 a.m. as a two-vehicle collision in the 700 block of Northwest 23rd Street in Englewood Village, as Chicago Fire Department paramedics tried to contain a car accident that left a woman dead.
The woman, 39-year-old Mary Ellen Tuckard, was found in the back seat of her vehicle.
Police said Tuckard was pronounced dead at 1240 North 24th Street after officers responded to several calls on Sunday.
While no vehicle was struck, Tuckard’s husband, Michael, and the couple were not injured.
Tuckard’s mother, who lives across the street, told WTAE 10 she felt so like a mother.
Tuckard’s death comes just three weeks after an off-duty Chicago police officer allegedly shot his fiance in the back, killing her. Tuckard’s body was found in South Chicago in 2005. Twenty-nine years after that case, this was the latest instance of police shootings in the city.
Chicago police said they’ve received numerous calls about an active shooter incident at an off-duty unit because shots have been fired inside an abandoned home.
