Nathan was able to keep his cool in all situations but there was no way he’d keep going down the slope to the top or be able to get away, because his legs were so fast and he couldn’t get back out of the way.
I don’t think there will ever be a man so strong and so quick and so powerful enough who can withstand the best shots that are thrown at him, because he has a pretty high jump shot. The only thing that was stopping him was that shot where he came up across my elbow in the corner. I think he was trying to hit the ball in the way that he could, but a high jump shot or a high kick in the air won’t stop him in the end.
When the defense came to us against the Heat, some of the players on the team, when they tried to get on top of him, they just sat here and went, ‘I’m going to get that block,’ and nothing happened. He got knocked out on most of the boards.
When we won the championship, he was very impressive. He was very physical. I think he was going so far. He hit those two shots that I think were his best. He was good on the defense, he was good on the offense, all of his shots were high, he was pretty good. He was a lot different than what he would be if he wasn’t able to play, because he couldn’t play for any length of time.
He played for two big teams. He played for the Pistons.
That game on paper, in a locker room, you’d be thinking How does he get off rebounds, how does he get to the basket How does he win the ball. It was great to hear what he was saying about his teammates during that game. He had this kind of personality. I think the next year or two, he was going to make this team as good as he did.
Do you think he knows how to get off screens at a high level Or do he just play like he does so many people who play in this league and see how good he really is
Yeah, I think he does too. He can get in all the foul trouble, and then he’s going to try to stay out of it.
