Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving had an interesting decision to make in Week 12 against the Miami Heat. After missing a significant amount of time last season due to injury, Irving went looking for new life in a Cleveland Cavaliers practice facility. As expected, he hit the road.
He visited the team’s training facility on Friday. He then traveled to the Cavs’ practice facility on Saturday morning. On Tuesday, he signed a two-year, 20 million contract extension with the team. Irving was signed this offseason to become just the fifth NBA player to sign a deal that covers a max contract of at least 2 years more than the max he paid in previous years.
Irving was a part of the starting lineup for the Heat’s win over the Chicago Bulls this past weekend. He was held to 12 points, 3 rebounds, and three blocks in 22 minutes.

Irving will probably want to get on the road again, and the Cavaliers have taken a step back after this season. Since then, they’ve gotten into the playoffs twice and reached the playoffs once, and that has put the Cavs over the top. But then last week against Miami, Cleveland went back to their old routine. They had LeBron James on the bench and Kyrie Irving doing all the plays.
Cleveland is back. It’s back to LeBron James again.
Irving has the luxury of getting on the road against the Heat, who had no real problem beating Miami in the Eastern Conference finals last season. Irving said during the Miami game he will be ready. In Game 1, LeBron went to the line against Heat center Hassan Whiteside. After Whiteside made three 3-pointers against Cleveland, he went down. He was put on the bench.
