The White House has said it will hold off on a nuclear strike over Syria if pressure rises in Tehran.

The strike has killed hundreds of people and injured more than 30.

However, Mr Obama said on Thursday it was absolutely essential we stand with Iraq in the fight against terrorism.

Iran says it is trying to oust President Bashar al-Assad, in a bid to stop his regime’s use of chemical weapons.

Iran is seen as its leading backer in the war on terrorism which it accuses of targeting it with attacks using chemical weapons on its citizens.

However, Mr Rouhani has made it clear that it still cannot agree with the White House.

He said Tehran would hold out until the Syrian government had clear, effective, and credible forces to fight Mr Assad, adding a US force would be sent to help Iraqi forces try to retake Fallujah.

Analysis The US has made clear that it opposes a bombing campaign targeting Iran as it continues to push for a political solution to the conflict.

But what has now emerged is that President Barack Obama, his spokesman and the national security adviser, have all expressed no interest in holding out for an option that is clear to them and that would save American lives.

The possibility that Iran wants to launch a ground invasion is on the back burner.

The Obama administration has said there will be no military action.

Analysis As soon as the White House is clear that it will not accept that President Barack Obama can make a decision on Iraq we can support with military means and that would put an end to all war, that would put an end to all threats, and that would put an end to all human suffering, and that would end all terror, the president is not going to give any response to that.
