As a matter of fact, the new PlayStation 4 will be the first device with a dedicated HDMI output port, and our next-generation consoles, the PS3 and PS4 Pro, with HDMI input. Both games are now available in 1080p and 1440p format.
The reason for the switch to 1080p output was a matter of price, and Sony has been very generous in the past with that move. As a result, you can now stream music and videos right into the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. We’ve already seen what happens with PlayStation 4 Pro, if you’re into that price argument. You’ll be able to stream your Blu-ray collection on the fly, without worry of a cable or a subscription.
As always, you’ll notice that you’re seeing two new features in place. The music selection for video is getting even more advanced. With more apps and streaming options, you’ll now be able to search by artist, album title and song. There’s also the new Streamer app, that comes with an option to watch videos directly for free. The new streaming features are all pretty neat.
We’ve already confirmed that you can watch video directly for free on the PS4. We’ll be giving more details about that in a bit.
Now that we’ve got everything lined up, let’s get a quick shot of what games will be available in each of the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 systems. The PS4’s game changer is the HD Audio option on the PS3 system. We’ve seen a lot of people wanting to use HD Audio on the PS4 so much so that there seem to be a few Sony PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 owners out there having trouble using HD Audio on the PS3.
