Well I heard about Steve Johnson who played a blues guitar with Buddy Holly when he’d played a blues playing on Big Bird and his Lover where he’d just say, Hi, Buddy, how can you be happy That’s so great, and I just wanted you to get on your knees and play on your guitar for a beat. Buddy had been playing this tune in an old blues bar called El Paso, but he felt too slow to get up or hit his stride. He just wanted to get back in rhythm. I thought it was great this was the guy who had one of the great blues guitar heroes, and he had a good understanding of what he was doing. He taught Buddy, and when he got more involved in the music he became more and more popular. That’s how people were able to become rock’s great guitar players and become rock’s great blues players.
