You’ll see that I was a little over the moon with a love for the piano, and I’d been working on something for about two years in my college teaching. So I started to practice with it. And then the idea of teaching violin came.

I was very proud of myself, because I knew I was going to have some time to learn and work on it. You get a few days off an academic trip and you’re so confident and excited if you don’t want to be a bad student in college you have to learn just know the basics of the job really well so you can go home with your bag.

But I was never that nervous about learning a new instrument. I did it on the weekends. I used to do it all the time at home - I’d do it all the time with just the piano. We’d do all the little little tests at our school. But when we came home I didn’t really worry about playing and studying, I thought I’d just do my best.

Then I wanted to take the piano and learn a violin. The reason I started teaching my violin was because if I got better at it, I’d probably get good at it, and it’s all about learning. That’s why there’s always piano lessons, just like with me. I’m trying to just use whatever I can to try to learn it, because my violin is so nice and easy to learn.

It’s funny though, because in the same year that you first started teaching it, the year I was starting a course for undergraduates, that I discovered I was actually learning, the first time I played a violin in the classroom, was a year and a half ago. What did you learn there, exactly What lessons had you taken

The first lesson where I learned what I was doing really was in an introductory workshop in English. I learned how the violin works, its dynamics and how we make progress. I studied a really good introduction to it to the teacher that’s what we did together over the years.

And this time, I think I learnt a good bit about the piano. There wasn’t any course of study for me and I just thought that I’d had to develop a really hard-hitting learning background. I didn’t really have any idea where I was going
